Centerpiece on a CompoteRachel Ray Centerpiece Wheat and Candles Centerpiece

When you want to create a centerpiece for your table, look for interesting containers that attract the eye, like colored bottles, pottery vases,  small buckets or cookie jars. Fill them with fresh flowers arrangements.

Dress up your table with a centerpiece made from a cake stand or pretty compote dish. Arrange three chunky candles on top of some greenery . Finish it off by tucking small bunches of grapes, plums or other small fruits in any open spaces.

Another idea is to paint a small tree branch a pretty bright color with spray paint. Select a color that complements your table setting or napkins. Let it dry completely then attach small feathered friends (from a craft store) here and there and display as table centerpieces. It’s sure to be the topic of conversation -[idea from Rachel Ray.]

The next idea has a simple elegance to it. Gather some wheat and display in three bud vases. Scatter four rich-colored candles that complement your tableware and place each candle on its own fire-proof mat to add definition. [Make sure the dry wheat isn't directly over the flame of the candles.]

Look around your yard, garden, basement, craft room and cupboards to find unusual containers you can use for a centerpiece base. Put some greenery – ferns, leaves, etc. in the container then top with chunky rocks around a big candle in the middle of the container. Fill empty spaces with pine cones, artificial bird eggs, flower blooms or other interesting items you have around the house. Let your imagination go wild and see what you can create. It’s very fulfilling to watch your creations take shape and form into something beautiful.
