Excercise Can Be Fun Can’t It?


What happened? The clothes in my closet must have shrunk! Pull and tug as I may, the buttons on my slacks and jeans won’t quite reach. Hmmpf! Well isn’t that a situation!? Looking in the mirror now, I can see my bulges have bulges. I hate to have to resort to the “E” word, but it looks like it’s either that,(excercise), or go shopping. You KNOW I’d rather go shopping, but let’s think about this for a minute. If I’m going shopping, I’d rather not get “fat clothes”, so that settles it, put the excercise tape in and . . .Stretch, two, three, four . . .  One way to lower cholesterol naturally is through excercise, so you may as well try to find a way to enjoy it at the same time.

My husband also gained a few extra pounds over the last year or so and went to the doctor for an unrelated problem. While he was in the doctor’s office, he asked what the best way is to lose some weight. The doctor’s very concise answer was, “Quit eating so darn much!” When my husband came home, he told me, “I was hoping for a magical cure, I guess.” I replied, “Aren’t we all!?”  Watching our cholesterol is something many of us have to do these days. With the proper diet and excercise regimen we can accomplish a healthy lifestyle.

We deal with the situation in different ways. My husband eats a lot of fruits and salads during the week,along with walking every day, then eats meat, potatoes and a little something sweet on the weekends to keep from going out of control. I give up breads and sweets during the week, and eat mostly meat, salads and vegetables. I’d rather excercise in front of the TV than walk outside. I’m certainly no expert, but I do believe that you’re more likely to stick to a routine that you get at least SOME enjoyment from. If I said I look forward to excercising, that would not be true, however, once I finish an excercise routine, I feel better, so the memory of that alone gives me the desire to repeat the process, whether it’s excercising to Richard Simmons, Billy Blank’s Tae Bo, Denise Austin, Lotte Berk or Sara Ivanhoe, the important thing is to do what needs to be done to get back into shape – then go shopping! Yay!
