Italian Dinnerware

Characteristics of ceramics that are hand made present each piece as uniquely crafted so there are never two pieces exactly alike. Minor variations can be detected which defines the hand of the artist and does not decrease its value. In fact, it can actually add to its allure. Examine a hand painted piece of pottery and you might find a tiny bit of paint that is out of place, a partial fingerprint or a lid that fits loosely – evidence of handcrafted work and part of what gives it that special, unique quality.

Ginori “Italian Fruit” Porcelain Dinnerware Collection was made in Italy. Marquis Carlo Ginori founded the porcelain company on his Doccia estate, which is near Florence Italy, in 1735. At that time the pieces were of a more decorative nature. The following generations of the Ginori family began crafting tableware in keeping with the original tradition, colors, master craftsmanship and were commissioned by well known aristocratic families to produce extraordinarily sized services; one you will easily recognize is the wife of Napoleon. The company expanded in 1896 and partnered with Giulio Richard’s Milanese company and the company name changed to Richard-Ginori, and remains so today. This dinnerware should be hand washed to maintain its beautiful, rich finish and delicate floral design.

The Parrucca Oil & Vinegar Set was handmade and hand painted in sunny Palermo, Sicily by Nino Parrucca. Every piece in the Parrucca collection is an original design crafted in the family workshop. Primitive figures mirror the life and history of Sicily but appeal to the masses as well. Sicily’s tasty cuisine tends to be healthy because of its use of fresh fruits and vegetables, like citrus, aubergines, raisins, apricots, tomatoes, beans, onions, artichokes, olives, including olive oil, paired with freshly caught coastline sea food, according to Wikipedia.
Another fact about Sicily you may be interested in is: Mount Etna, located in the east, is the tallest and most active volcano in Europe as well as the most active in the world. It is the only volcano on mainland Sicily, Italy.
Care for your fine ceramics: Avoid drastic temperature change. Ceramic tends to absorb cold, so when you place hot food on a cold platter it may craze or heaven forbid, break. Run warm water over the platter before filling it with food to help protect it from breakage. Another tip is to place a metal spoon in your teapot or mug when pouring hot liquid into them because the metal absorbs the heat, adding extra protection for your ceramics. They can last a lifetime with proper care. Use them often and let them bring enjoyment to those you love.
