Delaware Products

Delaware gained statehood on December 7, 1787, giving it the right to be called The First State, and by the middle of the 19th century it became an industrial center with such products as wheels, ships, paper, railroad cars and black powder. Also manufactured in Delaware are vulcanized fiber, textiles, metal products, medical supplies and machinery.
According to the Delaware.gov website, the official marine animal is the horseshoe crab, which contains limulus amebocyte lysate, (LAL). This substance is used to discover bacterial poisons in specific vaccines, medications and medical equipment. There are more horseshoe crabs in the Delaware Bay than anywhere else in the world.
When visiting the state of Delaware, check out Dover, its Capital; Georgetown and don’t miss Wilmington, the Port City. While you’re in the area you may want to try some local cuisine, like crab puffs, broiled chicken with sour milk biscuits, Muddle (which is a fish stew), ham which is smoked and aged for twelve months or more, Delaware grape jelly, Delaware punch and various desserts made with peaches.
