Georgia Products

Georgia is known as The Peach State because it is a leader in the production of peaches. The warm temperatures in this region create the perfect environment for their cultivation. Due to an unexpected cross-pollination caused by bees and wind in 1857, a new variety of peach was introduced by Samuel Rumph. He named it after his wife, Elberta.
In my travels I have visited Georgia several times, including Atlanta, the Capital. Experiencing the local cuisine is always my goal,so it’s important to find out where the locals dine. I remember asking a young lady at the front desk of my hotel, “Where can I find some good homestyle cooking?” She gave me two restaurant names – one was a chain that I was familiar with and the other was a French restaurant that she said was too expensive. I opted for the French restaurant and it exceeded my expectations, making it a memorable experience. Savannah is known for their French cuisine.

Other interesting facts:
Georgia produces over twenty four million pounds of chicken in an average day, plus fourteen million eggs; ranks first in the production of pecans and peanuts, and second in its cotton crops. Georgia’s most important vegetable crop is sweet potatoes. Sweet Potato Pie is similar in taste to pumpkin or squash pies. The main difference I’ve noticed is in the color. Pumpkin tends to be a deeper shade of orange than the others, but it doesn’t seem to affect the taste if the identical ingredients are used.
You are apt to see some tailgate parties celebrating an upcoming game. Georgians are very proud of their teams: The Georgia Bulldogs, The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons and The Atlanta Hawks to name a few. The party is on, so join the fun!
